| Published in Mohave Daily News Online from May 2 to May 9, 2021 - Bullhead City, Arizona - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Sue Maurer, mother, grandmother and friend, at the age of 81 years old. Gloria was a long-time resident of Bullhead City, Ariz. since 1968, and loved by many. Gloria was born on June 1, 1939 to Joseph and Suzanne Guzzo in Detroit, Michigan. Gloria spent her childhood years in Detroit, Michigan and Fresno, California and graduated from Fresno High School with the class of 1957. She then entered the United States Air Force serving from 1957 to 1958. She made several moves before making her home in Bullhead City, Ariz. Gloria's time and talents were given to many organizations over the years including being a member of the PTA, Jaycees, Elks Lodge, Association of Realtors and serving as leader for both Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She loved cake decorating, party planning, hosting neighborhood potlucks, and family camping trips to the White Mountains during the summers when the kids were young. Her greatest joy involved being with her children, grandchildren and her other "kids", her pets. Her love for animals led her to becoming an animal control officer with the City of Bullhead. Following Gloria's retirement, she attended Mohave Community College, where she proudly earned her degree in Administration of Justice. Gloria will be fondly remembered for her boisterous, fun-loving personality and her BIG smile. On Tuesday, April 6, 2021, she was welcomed into heaven by her son, Michael Maurer; her parents, Joseph and Suzanne Guzzo; step-father, Bruce Bauer; and brother, Richard Guzzo. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Tim Cole (Gina Maurer) of Jarvisburg, North Carolina, Lafe (Lori) Maurer of Avoca, Iowa and Debra (Stephen) Brown of Orangevale, California; brother, Robert Guzzo; grandchildren, Camra, Cody and Chase Maurer, Josh and Courtney Maurer, Jacob, Lesa (Schulte) and Brandon Maurer, Shannon and Ryan Brown; and eight great-grandchildren. No services will be held at this time. The family will be privately celebrating her life at a future date. If you wish to honor Gloria with a memorial, donations may be made to an animal-related organization in her name. |
