Carlota Sierra Roy passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, May 2,
2021. Carlota was 95 years old. When she moved to Yuma in the 1950's
it was the start of a new life that would bring much joy, love and
hardship. Through it all, Carlota gained an inner strength that became
legendary among her family, and all who knew her.

When Carlota's children were growing up she worked as a seamstress and
cleaned homes to support her family. She was a devout Catholic and
attended all three Yuma churches at various times in her life. One of
her favorite trips was to Israel, where she visited her favorite
biblical sites, and rode a camel on the streets of Jerusalem. She also
loved taking her children on summers trips to Las Palmas, the tropical
village near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where she grew up, and much of
her family still lives.

When Carlota was 29 years old, her first born, four-year-old Carmelita
and Carlota's husband, Isidro Zavala, died in a car accident. Four
others also lost their lives that February evening on the Avenue B
hill between Yuma and Somerton. Also preceding Carlota in death are
husband, Nick Sierra Sr., son, Nick Sierra Jr., and husband, Charles
J. Roy.

Carlota leaves behind four daughters, Genevieve Castaneda (TC), Grace
Wehrle (Joe), Margarita Zavala, Stella Alvarez, and sons, Robert
Sierra, and Jose Sierra. Grandchildren are Erika Siqueiros (Mark),
Nick Perez (Adriana), Eugene Jaramillo, Jr. (Kristin), Joy Hensel
(Casey), Marc Jaramillo (Jazz), Adrian Flanagan (Allyson), Breann Lara
(Peter), and Cheyenne Ballesteros (Chris). Great grandchildren are
Alexis Siqueiros (Brent), Mark Siqueiros, Jr. (Deseray), Hendrix
Siqueiros, Bianca Jaramillo, Liberty and Hope Hensel, and Laker and
Emmett Lara. Great-great grandchildren are Rosalene and Renesmee
Siqueiros, and Madilyn Beck. Also left behind are daughters-in-law,
Julie Sierra, Irene Sierra, and all of Nick and Roberts children.
Lastly, Carlota's niece, Elsa Garcia, and Elsas children and
grandchildren have been there from the beginning, and always a
treasured part of the family.

The family would like to express their love and appreciation to Jose
Sierra, who unselfishly cared for his mother the last seven years of
her life. Jose, more than anyone, helped Carlota navigate her final
years knowing she was loved, cared for and safe in her home.

A rosary for Carlota will begin at 10:30am, followed by a mass at
11am, on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at St. Francis of Assisi Church,
1815 S. Eighth Avenue in Yuma.

Please share your thoughts and memories of Carlota on the Yuma
Mortuary tribute wall at www.yumamortuary.com.
