| Published in Yuma Sun on May 12, 2021 - Yuma, Arizona - Juell Lindy Barker passed away on 3 May, 2021, in Yuma, Arizona, at the age of 91. Juell, known to many as Lindy, was born on October 14, 1929, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, the son of Juel Harvey Barker and Eva Fae (Wilson) Barker. He grew up in Mount Vernon during the depression and World War II. After graduating from Mount Vernon High School in 1947, Juell served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955 as an electronics technician and aircraft radio operator assigned to squadrons at Whidbey Island, WA; Atsugi, Japan; and Okinawa, Japan. In early 1955, Juell was introduced to Vera Dwernichuk on a blind date in Vancouver, Canada, and they were married on November 19, 1955. Juell and Vera remained happily married for the next 65 years until his passing. In January 1956, Juell began working for IBM, at first servicing computers, and was steadily promoted to management and then to the executive level before retiring in 1987. During that time, Juell and Vera lived in Seattle, WA; Santa Monica, CA; North Hollywood, CA; Claremont, CA; Ridgefield, CT; Le Vesinet, France; Mahopac, NY; and Tokyo, Japan. They traveled extensively in Europe, Africa, and Asia. In 1987, after 31 years working for IBM, Juell retired. For a dozen years after retiring, Juell and Vera enjoyed traveling in the summer, including spending many months in Alaska, Wyoming, and Montana. In the winter, they lived in Minden, NV, and Yuma, AZ. For several months, IBM brought Juell back as a contractor to work in Hong Kong. In 2000, Juell and Vera built a permanent home in Wellton, AZ. Juell stayed busy with a variety of hobbies, including gardening and fishing. Juell and Vera also built a highly successful business in real estate financing that is being carried on by their son Kevin. Throughout his life, Juell enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisher, RVer, and gardener. He will be remembered for his thoughtful and encouraging nature, great storytelling, keen business acumen, many close friendships, and always being ready to support his family. Juell is survived by his wife of 65 years Vera; his daughter, Vicki Clark and husband, Bill; son, Clay Barker and wife, Laura; son, Kevin Barker; his grandchildren, Craig Clark, Mandi Jo (Clark) Legg, Aurora (Barker) Jurkovich, Cristal Barker, Ann Barker, Lindy Barker, and Eva Barker; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and his brothers, Loren and Mark. He was predeceased by his sisters, JoEllen Barker and Joan Riley, and grandson, Chad Clark. Juell is deeply missed by all who knew him.
