Witt, age 71, of Overland Park, KS, loving husband, father, and friend passed away peacefully May 14, 2021 after a two year battle with cancer. He was lovingly surrounded by family and friends during his final days. Larry was born February 11, 1950 in Phoenix, Arizona to parents Donald and Virginia Witt. The family later moved to Mesa, Arizona where Larry attended school, made friends, and enjoyed life growing up. Throughout his life, Larry told many stories of times spent with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Larry enjoyed scouting campouts with his dad and as a teen Larry developed a love of cars as he spent time with his dad at work on weekends. Larry kept good memories of high school friends, trips to the Grand Canyon, and all the many pranks of a smart, funny, free-spirited boy. After college Larry worked for the City of Mesa, Arizona in the Engineering and Real Estate Services departments. It was during his 12 year tenure there that Larry gained experience and fine-tuned his skills in public right-of way negotiations and acquisitions. Larry had a keen understanding of civil engineering and public works. After moving to the Kansas City area in 1983 his knowledge and experience led him into a long and successful career as a commercial real estate appraiser. Larry was highly respected by his peers and clients; always professional, and always generous with his time and mentoring of others. Larry was a true friend, loyal business partner, smart, funny, creative, and always kind to others. Larry was a consummate reader with a love of civil war and World War II history. Owning and reading about cars were a lifetime passion. Larry channeled his creativity into several hobbies involving transportation. Larry was a good cook who enjoyed good food and wine, and his barbecue ribs never disappointed. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Virginia Witt. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Donna Witt; daughter, Shannon Jonietz; son, Derek Witt (Amber); son, Chris Duncan (Shannon); sister, Sharon Seekins (Dave), and his grandchildren Christina, Andrew, Rory, Dylan, Teagan, and Mylie, and great-grandson John. He leaves behind cousins, nieces, and nephews who all adored him. Larry was a loving husband, and amazing dad and grandfather.
