| Published in The Arizona Republic from May 19 to May 20, 2021 - Phoenix, Arizona - Phoenix - It is with great sadness that the family of Suzanne Jayne Waller Yeknik share her passing on May 14, 2021. Suzanne (Sue, Suzy, Mama Sue) was born on September 12, 1945 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. She grew up in Watertown, Wisconsin with two brothers, Bill and Steve, and one sister, Ann. Sue went on to attend the University of Wisconsin, where she studied education. During her studies, she met her husband, Miles Matthew Yeknik. Sue and Matt were married in Madison, Wisconsin on September 24, 1966. Shortly after their wedding, the couple moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where Sue completed her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. In 1978, Sue and Matt moved to Arizona with their two young children Carrie (b 1974) and Jessica (b 1977). Sue was an extraordinary teacher. She devoted her professional life to education and made a profound difference to hundreds of children in the public school system. Sue was loved by her students and she loved them. She was energetic, loved to laugh, creative, intelligent, caring and full of love. Sue fought Alzheimer's Disease valiantly for over seven years. She is greatly loved and will be forever missed. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Matt, her two daughters, Carrie and Jessica, their spouses and five grandchildren. Due to the Covid-19 virus restrictions, a celebration of Sue's life will be held in the Fall. |
