| Published in The Arizona Republic from May 17 to May 21, 2021 - Phoenix, Arizona - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Evaristo "Ev" Gortarez of Phoenix, AZ on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. Evaristo passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by love ones and holding the hand of his wife of 65 years. Evaristo was 87 years old, a number he was very proud of. Beloved husband and best friend of Margaret Gortarez. Loving father of Estella Suell, Ernie Gortarez and Margaret Millanes. He was the proud grandfather to Gabriel Hamilton, Roy Hamilton, Christina Gortarez, Ernie Gortarez, Major Jessica Millanes Shearer (USMC) and Joseph Millanes. Evaristo was adored by his large family and his face lit up whenever his 17 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren were around. Evaristo was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran and will be buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. Please reach out to family members for memorial service information.
