Joseph Clyde Davis Sr., 100, passed away on Friday May 21, 2021 at
home surrounded by his daughters.

Joe was born in Managua, Nicaragua and moved to the United States with
his mother at the age of 1. He resided in Mesa, the community that he
loved, for most of his life. He spent two years in San Diego, while
serving in the Navy and another two and a half years in Las Vegas,
working as a barber.

Barbering and telling stories is what Joe loved most. He was an
amazing storyteller, loved to tell jokes to his customers and give the
occasional hair cut in between. He loved to talk about Arizona
history, all the changes he had witnessed and all the people he had
given haircuts to over the years. Joe was the oldest barber in
Arizona, a title he was immensely proud of.

Joe was a family man, through and through. Born the oldest of 9
siblings, he learned the importance of taking care of his family. He
met his bride to be, Ernestine, at a Mesa High football game. They
were wed soon after in 1941, had four children and spent 58 wonderful
years together, before losing his love in 1999. He was a hard worker
and often worked two jobs to help make ends meet.

He is preceded in death by his wife Ernestine, sons Ronnie and Joseph
Jr, his brothers Wallace, Bob, Tom, Adrian, Ted, Rex and his sister,
Lorraine. He is survived by daughters, Sandra and Susan and his sister
Yvonne, his grandchildren, Steven, Stephanie, Jennifer, Lindsey, Joey,
Jessica, and Megan and his ten great grandchildren.

Joe loved to travel, tend to his garden but most importantly, talking
to people. He never met a stranger. Joe was made to learn to love
dancing by his wife and they spent many a night waltzing, be it in the
living room or on the dance floor.

He was a giving and caring man. He provided a home to many who
struggled, even when his family was struggling as well.

He was grateful to many Mesa business owners who worked with him to
reopen his shop and the people of Mesa who supported his dreams while
trying to rebuild.

He will be remembered by many family members and thousands of
customers. He touched so many lives with his smile, his wit, and an
amazing flat top.

The viewing will take place at Meldrum's Mortuary 52 N Macdonald, Mesa
85201, Thursday May 27th from 6:00-8:00 pm. The funeral will be held
at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 1054 W. 2nd Place,
Mesa, Arizona 85201. Viewing at 10:00 am; services immediately after
at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at City of Mesa Cemetery
immediately following the funeral.
