| Published in The Arizona Republic from May 26 to May 27, 2021 - Phoenix, Arizona - Norman (Cole) Brown Jr., age 81, passed away at his home in Phoenix, AZ on May 19, 2021 due to complications of a stroke. Born on June 10, 1939, son of Norman C. & Blanch Brown (founders of the Anchorage Daily News), and brother of Susan Cappon. Cole attended West Anchorage High School, and Lewis and Clark College in Oregon where he earned his degree in printing. He returned to Anchorage where he raised his family and established Northern Printing Co., previously the commercial printing division of the Anchorage Daily News. Cole was a lifelong motorsports enthusiast with a passion for classic cars and motorcycles. He went from competing in snowmobile races in Alaska in his younger days to restoring classic cars and winning awards in many car shows. Anyone who knew him would most certainly describe him as a "car guy." Cole is survived by his wife Lois, his children Sandy Brown, Diane Bringmann (Scott), David Brown (Debbie), Steve Brown (Mike) and Cathy Opinsky (John). Cole was also survived by his nieces and nephews as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. There will be a private service held in Arizona.
