BLACKWELDER, Theodore Fisher


Published in The Arizona Republic from May 24 to May 29, 2021 - Phoenix, Arizona - Theodore (Ted) Fisher Blackwelder, 91, of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021 with his family by his side. He is preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Doctor Oscar Blackwelder, mother Geneva L. Blackwelder, brother Rev. David L. Blackwelder and his step father James Kendall. Ted was born in Baltimore, MD in 1929. He graduated from Roanoke College in 1952, where he met his wife of 66 years, Lillian. He graduated from George Washington Medical School in 1956 and completed his residency in OBGYN. He spent four years active duty in the U.S. Air Force. Ted had a medical practice in Phoenix, Arizona for 35 years. After he retired from private practice, he volunteered at the Arizona State University clinics. Ted was a past president of the Phoenix OBGYN Society. Ted loved bow ties, traveling, fly fishing, crossword puzzles, dachshunds, restoring antique clocks and his family. Ted is survived by his wife Lillian, his daughters Melissa Turi (Gary) and Laura Johnson (Brian) and his grandson, Brendon Lynn. A memorial donation may be made to the Arizona Humane Society. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 26 at 11:00 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 7100 N. Mockingbird Lane, Paradise Valley, AZ.
