| Published in Yuma Sun on May 30, 2021 - Yuma, Arizona - Ernestine Tina Hernandez, joined her Honey Henry, in Heaven, on May 22, 2021. She passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and godchildren. She was 90 years young. Tina was born to Carmel and Louisa Chavez on March 17, 1931 in Winslow, AZ. Tina was Class President her Junior Year in High School when she developed tuberculosis. This ended her formal education, she was sent to the Children's Sanitarium in Tempe, AZ where she resided for nine months. It was there that she met the love of her life, Henry, another patient. Tina was a very involved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She was a mom's, mom. Everyone who walked through the door was welcomed. She had a generous heart and a compassionate soul. Tina put her heart into everything from gardening to working out. She had a love for fitness and was an active member at the YMCA where she developed many close friendships. Tina worked out 4 times a week until COVID-19. Mom was the grandmother who was actively involved with her grandchildren. Tina lived her life as a devout Catholic and was an active member of Immaculate Conception Parish. She was our angel on earth, always inspiring others to pray and become closer to God. Tina was preceded in death by her spouse of 68 years, Henry. Parents; Carmel and Louisa Chavez. Sisters; Molly Gonzalez, Margaret Garcia. Brothers; Joe, Frank, Gilbert, Carmel, and Freddy Chavez, and her grandson, Enrique Zamudio. She is survived by her children, Nicky Hernandez, Jeri (Jerry) Jackson, Patsy (Leonard) Williams, Augie Hernandez, Kathy (Keith) Zamudio, and Henry (Karen) Hernandez. Brothers, Ralph (Sylvia) Chavez and Eddie Chavez, 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great-great- granddaughter, and the Medina Family. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Leo Williams, Josh Jackson, Desmond Vasquez, Casey Hernandez, Cory Hernandez, and Zack Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons Jeff Kraft, Adam Zamudio and Alex Hernandez. The Viewing and Rosary will be at Johnson Mortuary on Friday, June 4th, 2021 from 9:00am 11:00am. Funeral Mass is at Immaculate Conception Church, Friday, June 4th at 11:30am Burial/Entombment will be followed directly after Mass at Johnson Mortuary. Masks are required for viewing, rosary, and funeral services. Livestream services will be available at Johnson Mortuary and Immaculate Conception Church for those unable to attend.
