| Arizona Republic (Phoenix, Arizona) Wednesday, March 7, 2001, p. B7 Leona Pearl Waggoner, 90, of Tempe, entered into rest March 2, 2001. Leona was born June 23, 1910 in Phoenix. Attended Monroe Elementary School, Phoenix Union High School, Phoenix College, and Arizona State Teacher's College (now ASU), and graduated in 1931. She taught for one year at Lincoln School in Phoenix. She married Charles Ilo Waggoner in 1932. She joined him in supporting and promoting education in the valley. They moved to Tempe in 1939 when her husband became Superintendent of Kyrene district. She was a substitute Teacher and also a Teacher's Aide at the Eighth Street School and at Ritter School. She has been a member of Tempe First United Methodist Church since 1939, a choir member, a Sunday School teacher, and a member of United Methodist Women. She was also a long-time member of Tempe Women's Club. Survivors include son, Richard Waggoner (Alberta) of San Diego; and daughter, Patricia Killip (Russell) of Phoenix; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many long-time friends. She has resided in Friendship Village of Tempe for the past 14 years. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00am, Saturday, March 10, 2001 at First United Methodist Church, 215 E. University Dr., Tempe. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at First United Methodist Church, 215 E. University Dr., Tempe, AZ 85281.
