MCCOY, Tim

Arizona Daily Star (Tucson, Arizona) Wednesday, February 1, 1978, p. 12 At trail's end Tim McCoy, one of the last of the "real" cowboys who turned film actor, died the other day at Ft. Huachuca Military Hospital. He had served as a Colonel in World Wars I and II. McCoy was active in show business until a couple years ago and had outlived many of the fans who breathlessly munched popcorn and chewed gum to the rhythm of his horseback adventures at Saturday matinees. He was of that breed lured away from $30-a-month jobs chasing cows to the excitement and good money to be found stunting and starring in the thousands of Hollywood westerns being churned out. Along with Tom Mix, Ken Maynard and Hoot Gibson he was one of the few who found the way to stardom. McCoy's career ranged from Wild West shows through silent films, then the "talkies" and finally on to television. He entertained millions. News stories the other day reported McCoy had died. But, to his old fans, he is surely even now galloping through the purple sage toward a cool green pasture where old cowpunchers go to rest their weary bones.
