| Published by Mohave Daily News Online from Nov. 7 to Nov. 8, 2021 - Bullhead City, Arizona - Lt. Colonel (Ret.) David "Dave" Curtis Connett Sr., age 87, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather slipped the surly bonds of Earth on Thursday, October 28, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born on February 16, 1934 in Colcord, Oklahoma to parents Owen and Mayrene Connett. Dave will be forever remembered and respected by his family and community of friends as a man of impeccable integrity and character, who inspired all those he associated with to always strive towards dignity, duty and honor. Dave was happily married for 59 years to Margaret "Peggy" Marie Connett, who sadly passed away in 2014. Dave enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1954. He worked his way up through the ranks as an enlisted aircraft mechanic and was selected for Officer Candidate School and pilot training, which he completed with honors in 1958. First assigned to fly the F-102 Delta Dagger in Bitburg AB, Germany, Dave then upgraded to the F-4C Phantom at George AFB, California. After an assignment to Vietnam in 1967 and completing 142 combat missions, he returned home to George AFB. There he was assigned as a Lead Instructor to the first contingent of Israeli Air Force pilots, training them to fly and fight in their newly purchased Phantom fighters. After retiring from the Air Force, Dave went on to work for Rockwell Aviation in 1982 as a Senior Engineer developing and maintaining the B1- B bomber in Palmdale, California and Tinker AFB, Oklahoma. Eventually, after retiring from Rockwell, Dave and Peggy settled down in Guthrie, Oklahoma. There they enjoyed an active and rewarding life in their small air park community. They kept busy gardening, cooking, entertaining, and of course flying in their private aircraft. Upon the passing of Peggy, Dave relocated to Bullhead City, Arizona staying with his daughter, Denise where he spent his remaining years quietly with his books and his beloved Yorkshire Terrier. He is survived by his loving children, David Jr., and Denise; grandchildren, Jenny, Sara, Sam, Rosy, James; great-grandchildren, Jack, Jalen and Rowan; and younger brother, Jim Connett. Lastly, he is very much missed by Edie, his furry little "kid". David Curtis Connett Sr. One great husband. One great father. One great pilot. You are sorely missed. |
