| Wickenburg Sun (Wickenburg, Arizona) Wednesday, November 3, 2021, p. A-4 Buddy Loyd (Buckshot) Deakins was born in Baird, Texas on Feb. 17, 1936. He took his last ride into the sunset at his home in Wickenburg on Oct. 24, 2021. Buckshot is survived by his loving partner, Mary Lou Williams; daughter Brandi Meyer (Robert) of Duncan, Oklahoma; stepsons Benny McCoy of Jacksboro, Texas, and Bryan Bohnert (Charla) of Norman, Oklahoma; nephew Danny Loyd (Elizabeth) Hill of Nicut, Oklahoma, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and cousins. Buckshot was preceded in death by his father Loyd (Red) Deakins, mother Grace Lee Deakins, sons Buddy Loyd Deakins Jr., and Brady Deakins, sister and brother-in-law, Joy Gay and Wayne Hill. During his youth, Buckshot was a ranch hand whose passion was the rodeo, whether it was bronc riding, steer wrestling, or roping, and was well known on the Junior Rodeo Circuit. Buck served in the Army, based in Germany as a field observer in the Artillery Field Unit. After his discharge, he spent most of his life in and around Pecos Texas, where he and his dad raised and worked cattle. After retirement he moved to Wickenburg, where he could continue his love of horses and roping year-round. There will be no funeral at Buckshot's request. He loved his family immensely and asked that his ashes be spread over his sons' graves. A Buckshot Deakins Scholarship fund has been established at The You Can Foundation and memorials may be at www.youcanfoundation.org or the nearest Rodeo Association in his honor.
