Cecilio Salvador Vallejo

Cecilio Salvador Vallejo, 90 passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022 in
Phoenix at the Carl T. Hayden Veterans Hospital. He was born November
22, 1931 in Atkins, Texas, the son of the late Pedro Vallejo and Pilar
nee Ahumada.

Cecil served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War
enlisting in 1949-1951. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps from
1952-1977 serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was awarded a Bronze
Star with a Combat V, Combat Action Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge and a
Presidential Unit Citation. Upon returning from his second tour in the
Republic of Vietnam, Cecil and family moved to Yuma, AZ where he and his
family resided for many years.

After retiring from the U.S. Marine Corps, he worked for the Arizona
Department of Economic Security. He was a member of the American Legion
Post 19, Yuma AZ where he was in charge of the Ceremonial Team. Cecil
could be found volunteering coaching Little League, Special Olympics and
the running of Veteran Days in Yuma. Cecil spent his remaining years as
a resident of the Community Living Center at Hayden Veterans Hospital.
Cecil could be found making his rounds checking up on other Veterans and
staff members. It just feels good when I'm out there rolling around.
Cecil was a people person who would say that he was fortunate to have
traveled and met so many different kinds of people.

Cecil is survived by his wife of 64 years Marilyn Vallejo nee Whiteman;
five children Patricia Mueller and husband Ted, David and wife Rebel,
Daniel, Don and husband Robert Cannon, Peggy Vallejo Santello and
husband Barton. Six grandchildren Carolyn and husband Joseph, Elizabeth,
Caitlin, David, Rachael and Miranda and two great-grandchildren Andrew
and Sophia. and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his siblings Clara V. Rodriguez, Margarita
Vallejo, Consuelo V. Zaragosa, Mercedes Teresa Flores, Macedonio
Vallejo, Margarita V. Delao, Marina V. Gonzales, Ricardo Vallejo,
Bernardo Vallejo, Janie V. Robinson and Armando Vallejo and surviving
siblings Pedro Vallejo and Rosie V. Posey.

A funeral mass will be held at the Chapel at Hayden Veterans Hospital
Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be at the National
Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, Arizona at 2:00 P.M.
