He was born Aug. 5, 1923, in Frazeysburg, Muskingham County, Ohio to Charles and Beulah Welsh. From an early age, Wayne always wanted to be a cowboy. As a child, he trained his horse Ginger, and rode that horse to school.

He came to Arizona and worked at Castle Hot Springs. He later had his own string of dude horses that he contracted out to guest ranches around Wickenburg like Los Caballeros, Remuda and Monte Vista Ranch. In 1958 he met and married Sue Holmes from Fort Collins, Colorado. For the Next 63 years, they shared a true love story. Wayne became a livestock inspector for the state of Arizona in 1966. He moved his family to Peeples Valley where he lived until his death.
