With a saddened heart, we are announcing the passing of Jan (Hardie)
Birdsell, after a short illness. Originally from California, her family
moved to Lake Havasu City in 1966 and she graduated in 1968 from Kingman
High School.
Jack Hardie Park, named after her father who helped edit the Havasu
Herald in Lake Havasu, continues to be a wonderful tribute to this
pioneer family. As a wonderful chef, she helped open the Makai Café and
finishing her career at the Refuge, she was adored by coworkers and
renowned by local patrons.
After graduation, Jan moved back to California and opened Ocean Park
Café. In the late 80s, she moved to Salem, Oregon and got married to
Jeff, where they opened Birdsell Gardens until 2000, then returning to
Lake Havasu to be closer to family.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jack and Martha Hardie, brothers
John and Jerry Hardie. Jan is survived by her husband Jeff Birdsell,
sisters Vicki Webster of Lake Havasu and Jeanie McCallum of Oregon,
stepson Tyson Birdsell, grandchildren Ayden and Delaney Birdsell, many
nieces and nephews, including: Mandy Garrett, Jeremy Furnish, Eric and
Barbara McCallum (Jack and Erica), Keely McCallum, Kelly McCallum, Jason
and Jeff Hardie, Todd and Misty Garrett, and Jennifer Baily. She is
survived by special friends Bob, Teresa, and Alison Swerdlick of Oregon.
