William H. Hatch

William H. Hatch, age 91, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022. Bill was
born September 9, 1930 in St. Louis, MO to William H. and Mildred Hall
Hatch.

Bill was educated in St. Louis Public Schools and later graduated from
Southern Missouri State University with a Bachelor's Degree and then
from the University of Missouri with a Master's. While in college he
played two seasons of minor league baseball and after graduation from
Mizzou, he then served two years in the Army during the Korean War.

After military service he married Shirley McGovern and had three
children. He then began his 40-year teaching career. His teaching career
included 10 years in Missouri, Illinois and California high schools as a
history teacher and baseball coach, culminating with a 30-year
assignment as a teacher and baseball coach at Long Beach, California,
City College.

He then divorced Shirley after 27 years, and married Angela Cole. When
he retired, they moved to Lakeside, Oregon. There, Bill was instrumental
in resurrecting the baseball program at Southern Oregon Community
College in Coos Bay, where he then coached for six years.

After his divorce from Angela, Bill moved to Laughlin, Nev. and then two
years later to Mohave Valley, Ariz., where he spent time with his best
friend and part-time companion, Ida Stratton. Bill spent his last days
with his son Dan, in Reno, Nev.

During his life, beyond teaching and coaching, Bill was quite active in
Republican politics. He served as a member of Orange County California
Central Committee, as the precinct chairman of the city of Huntington
Beach and as the southern chair of the 69th Assembly district. During
his time in Oregon he served in several capacities in the Coos County
Republican Party ending as the vice chair of the county committee. He
was quite the prolific writer in political columns and Letters to the
Editor, including the Daily News.

Bill is survived by his sons, Steve Hatch of Mohave Valley, Ariz. and
Dan (Karen) Hatch of Reno, Nev.; daughter, Mary (Rick) Bartlett of
Corona, Calif.; two grandsons, Richard (Shelly) Bartlett of Corona,
Calif. and Patrick (Mattie) Bartlett of White Oak, Texas; and his six
great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 am on Tuesday, August 30,
2022 a the Valley View Christian Church, 706 North Oatman Road, Bullhead
City, AZ 86442, with Reverend Malcom Moberly officiating.
