Yuma, Arizona -

Marilyn Dewey, our precious Mother, beloved Grandmother and Friend to
all who knew her, passed suddenly on October 16, 2022, at the young age
of 74. Marilyn was born June 23, 1948 on the Quechan Indian Reservation
Fort Yuma, California and held a career at the Yuma Regional Medical
Center for over thirty years. Marilyn was known for her great sense of
humor and her beautiful infectious spirit.

Marilyn was one of the of the remaining fluent Quechan language speakers
and held strong roots to culture and traditions. She was most proud of
her travels to stand ground at the Dakota Pipelines and Washington DC
for cultural wellness of Indigenous people.

In 1966, Marilyn relocated to San Jose, California receiving
certification in business education. Upon returning to the Quechan
Community she received her accreditation in the nursing field and over
the next 30 years held multiple positions throughout many departments
meeting and establishing lifelong friendships to include her best
friends Antonia Olivas and Fatima Addulahad. In 2009, Marilyn began her
most enjoyable period of her life as a retiree, allowing her additional
time for her grandchildren. This period also allowed her to take road
trips, enjoy the slots, thrift store shopping and time to listen to many
friends who gravitated to her for motherly advise. She loved just to sit
and share a hot meal.
