| Published by Today's News Herald on Oct. 30, 2022 - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Thomas Edward McCorkendale was born in Carroll County, Missouri with his father, Ezra assisting his mother Edith in the birth. He was the youngest of four children, Genevieve, John and Donald McCorkendale. The family moved to Los Angeles when he was eight. While in high school, Tom learned the machine tool trade from his brother John, who contracted with the military to make potato peeling machines. Tom worked for 12 years as a machinist. He earned a BA degree at Long Beach State University while working. LA Trade Technical College hired him to teach machine tool technology. Later, he furthered his teaching career by moving to Northern California where College of the Redwoods was opening a new campus. In addition to his teaching career, Tom bought a small ranch for raising beef cattle. While on sabbatical at ASU in 1977 he met Dr. Mary Jane Tawney who he married in July, l979. Both were employed at the college until retiring in 1994. Tom and Jane enjoyed traveling in campers and RVs throughout the states and Baja California. Ocean fishing was their favorite sport. In addition to traveling Tom's hobbies were gardening and jewelry making. The couple moved to Lake Havasu City in 2003. Tom had two sons by a previous marriage, Thomas Jr and Timothy and stepchildren Cynthia Sanders, Thomas O'Meara, Leslie O'Meara, and Kerry Monier. He is survived by many grandchildren. |
