Arizona Visitor To Wichita Takes Own Life In Park
Retired Railroad Man Fires Bullet Through Brain in Linwood
Here Only Few Days

Henry Edgar Shaw, 69, Prescott, Ariz., was found dead in Linwood park
Friday at 4 p.m., with a bullet wound through the head. Police said it
was a case of suicide.

The shot probably was fired at 11 a.m. Workmen near the park heard a gun
report at that time but paid no heed to it as boys continually hunt in
the vicinity.

Just before the body was found, Mrs. Cora C. Current, 1512 Pattie, a
sister to Shaw, reported he was missing and asked police to launch a
search. As Desk Sergeant Bing Crosby prepared to broadcast a description
of the man, he got a report of the body being found in Linwood park. He
guessed that the body was that of the missing man and investigation bore
out his prediction.

Police said F. H. Koenig, 1722 South Minnesota, found the dead man. When
officers arrived, they found the body in a depression to the south of
the greenhouse operation by the park department. The man lay on his
back. The 32.20-caliber pistol lay between his legs and the butt of the
gun was near the right hand.

The muzzle of the pistol had been placed against the roof of the mouth
and the trigger pulled. Death was instantaneous.

Shaw had lived here but a few days. He stayed at the Eaton hotel.

Members of Shaw's family at Prescott, Ariz., said he had been ill for
some time. He left there Sunday for Wichita.

Shaw was a Santa Fe conductor for 30 years on the Phoenix-Ashfork run,
but was retired three years ago after he lost his left hand in a train
accident near Prescott. For the past year he had been in business in
Prescott.

His survivors include his widow, Mae; an 11-year-old daughter, Betty
Maxine; a daughter by a former marrieage, Mrs. Pauline Williams, Los
Angeles, and two sisters, Mrs. T. F. McLaughlin of Clearwater, and Mrs.
Current of this city.

Officer Whitney said a note was found, but it only directed Shaw's
relatives in Arizona be notified, and told where to send his suitcase.

The body was taken to the Lahey & Martin mortuary.
