Ex-Sportsman Dies In Phoenix
Mervyn Webb, one time operator of sportsman reserves and race horse
farms in Virginia and New Jersey, died early yesterday in a local
hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 29 years old.
Rites will be conducted by the Rev. Reese Scull in Wickenburg at 11
o'clock this morning. Interment will be on Mr. Webb's homestead, three
miles south of Wickenburg on the Hassayampa river.
Mr. Webb formerly operated and was part owner of the historic Fort
Powatan farm, a 3,650-acre wild game preserve on the James river in
Virginia. Later he was manager of the Breadnor farm, a large estate and
race horse stable in New Jersey.
His health broken, Mr. Webb came to Arizona in 1930 and remained nine
months in the Salt River valley and Prescott. In 1932 he left his home
in Gladstone, N.J., and settled on his homestead.
His father, Ernest Webb, who has resided with him the past 15 months, is
the only known relative.
