| The Sun (Wickenburg, Arizona) Friday, September 12, 1958, p. 1 Thursday Rites For Mrs. Chilson Funeral services for Mrs. Emily Jane Chilson, pioneer Arizona resident and mother of Mrs. Roy Pemberton of Wickenburg, were held at the Carr Mortuary in Tempe at 10 o'clock Thursday morning of this week. Burial followed in the Greenwood Cemetery in Phoenix. Mrs. Chilson died in the Pemberton home here at 12:20 a.m. Thursday. While she had been a resident of Tempe since 1907, she had been here for the past eight months after being injured in a fall. Born in Prineville, Ore., January 20, 1872, Mrs. Chilson moved with her family to Arizona in 1889 and resided near where the Roosevelt Dam is now located. She later lived in the Payson area before moving to Tempe. She was married in 1891 to John C. Chilson, cattleman and rancher, who died in 1924. She had been a frequent Wickenburg visitor since 1921. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Pemberton of Wickenburg and Mrs. Bessie Carpenter of Yarnell; one son, Charles Chilson of Payson; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Four of her children preceded her in death. |
