| Published by Today's News Herald on Jul. 20, 2023 - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Irene Mays, 97, of Lake Havasu City, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Lakeview Terrace Memory Care Center. She was born Jan. 3, 1926, in Littleton, Ohio, daughter of the late Nephi and Nora Gorby Fox. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John A. Mays, daughter, Avis Mays and son Jeffrey Mays; brothers Peter and Gail Fox and sister, Claribel Fox Wade. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Christ Chapel in Lake Havasu, and a volunteer seamstress at the University of Southern Mississippi in Long Beach, Mississippi, as well assisting with the Special Needs Sunday School class at Long Beach Presbyterian Church in Long Beach, Mississippi. Irene is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Mike) Velten and stepdaughter, Carol (Mike) Jenkins, son, John Mays, Jr. and grandchildren, Derek and Bryan Michael, Chad, Brad and Ryan Mays, Jennifer Ward, Lisa Olsen, Laurie Brown, Nancy Drysdale and Andria Hanson; daughter-in-law Pam Mays and 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be held at Christ Chapel, 3450 Chemehuevi Blvd, Lake Havasu City, at 11 a.m., Friday, July 21, 2023. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at River Valley Hospice and Lakeview Terrace.
