Dennis Byard Travelstead passed away at the age of 83. He was born in
Fillmore, California on Feb. 17, 1940 to Maurice and Anna Travelstead.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Charlene. They had no children together
but Dennis did have a daughter by a previous marriage - her name was
Jessica who has since then passed away. He also has two grandchildren
and is survived by his two brothers, Don, Charlie and one sister,
Margaret Jeffcoat, and brothers Maurice who passed away May 11, 1991 and
Billy who passed away April 10, 2020.
Dennis graduated from high school in 1958 and then joined the Navy from
1958-1964. Dennis joined the Navy again in 1967-1969. The ship that he
was on was called USSReaper MSO 467 (Mine Sweeper Ocean) He was called
The Go to Electrician if no one else could fix it. Dennis got out of the
Navy in 1969.
When Dennis left the Navy, he went back to work at Pacific Bell in Los
Angeles. Dennis and Charlene met shortly after that and got married
April 29, 1973 and was married for 50 years. Denny stayed with Pacific
Bell until he retired in December 28, 1998.
Dennis and Charlene moved to Lake Havasu City in December 1998. They
both joined the Havasu Walking Group in 2001 which is how they met most
of their friends and still are with them. He also joined the shooting
range in Parker and different organizations. He had made some great
friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Disabled
American Veterans.
