Shirley Mae (Turman) Nicholson, 65, formerly of Mammoth and currently of Lake Montezuma, AZ,
passed away June 24, 2003, in Reno, NV.
She was born May 13, 1938, in Bisbee, AZ, to Sam and Mabel (Johnson) Turman and attended
Frontier and Bisbee schools. She graduated from Valley Union High School in Elfrida, AZ and
married Jimmy Nicholson on June 12, 1955, in Elfrida. The couple had just celebrated their 48th
anniversary and she worked for the school system for 30 years, including Mammoth Elementary
School where she worked as the school's librarian.
She loved family gatherings, crafts and playing sports. She played golf, softball, volleyball and
bowled in city, state and 12 national tournaments since 1963. She was bowling in the National
Tournament in Reno, NV, when she passed away.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sam Turman. Survivors include her husband Jimmy
Nicholson, of Lake Montezuma; one daughter; two sons; mother, Mabel Turman, of Elfrida; brother;
sister; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 5, 2003, at Hope Lutheran Church in Bisbee.
