DUSTMAN, Herman Uras


Herman Dustman Born in Alliance, Nebraska on July 11, 1910. Departed on Dec. 14, 2002 and resided in Cottonwood, Arizona. Herman Dustman, our patriarch, a beloved husband of 65 years, father of 5, grandfather of 12, great-grandfather of 19, and great-great-grandfather of 1, passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 14, 2002. He was always a tireless worker with rough hands and a ready laugh, a man who loved stone, a builder of numerous homes, hospitals, schools and churches, that have sheltered and nurtured families and communities all over the world. Herman was a self taught man who completed the eighth grade but acheived many things in his lifetime including a General Contractors License. In the late 30's he worked as a miner in Idaho at the Sunshine Mine. He later relocated to Miami, Arizona and worked at the Miami Inspiration Mine. While living in Miami he met and married the love of his life, Heatherbelle Cornforth. He then moved to White Plains, New York in 1939 where he worked on the aquedct for the water system for New York City. He built numerous buildings that still can be seen in Phoenix, Tucson and Miami, Arizona and Honolulu, Hawaii. They include the Crystal Motel and Linda Lodge on Grande Avenue and the Phoenix SDA Elementary School in the late 40's, the Hawaiian Mission SDA Academy and other schools and churches in Hawaii during the 50's. In the 60's he built the very modern concept Rotunda at 56th Street and Camelback for the SDA church. Later in the 60's, Herman undertook major construction work at the Tempe Community Hospital, retiring from the hospital as the maintenance superintendent in 1977. He and his wife Heatherbelle Cornforth Dustman retired to Cottonwood and they built a retirment love nest on the banks of the Verde River. There they gardened and entertained their extended family and friends for the past 23 years. He was an honorable man, ever faithful to his wife and family and will be loved and missed forever. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 18 in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in te Valley View Cemetery. Westcott Funeral Home assisted the family with these arrangements.
