Wilbur Maddox Is Electrocuted
Wilbur Maddox, 23-year-old local resident, was electrocuted at
approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday when a crane with which he was working at
the Mohave Mining & Milling Co. mill at Box Canyon hit a power line.
Thomas Saunders and Huge Ingle, who were present, gave artificial
respiration pending the arrival of an ambulance. Maddox was dead upon
arrival at Community Hospital.
O. T. Owens was the crane driver and was backing the vehicle. Maddox was
walking alongside with one hand on the crane as he directed the driver.
Rod Easley, general manager of Mohave Mining & Milling Co., the firm for
which Maddox and the others were working, says that because Maddox was
on the ground with his hand on the crane, he got the full charge of the
12,000 volts, while Owens, the driver, was uninjured, probably because
of the insulation afforded by the rubber tires on the vehicle.
Funeral arrangements had not yet been made as The SUN went to press.
Survivors include the widow, Lillian Maddox, and one young son. They
reside at 41 South Washington Street.
