When he was a toddler, his family moved to Tucson, Arizona. In 1982, he met the love of his life, Heather Ward, and together they relocated to Flagstaff, where John pursued a degree in Education at Northern Arizona University. Following his graduation, John dedicated his entire career to the Flagstaff Unified School District. At Coconino High School, he taught physical education, weight training, auto shop, and industrial education, and spent many years coaching baseball before transitioning to coach girls' softball. Later, he became the beloved PE teacher at Sechrist Elementary, a role he held until his retirement in 2017. He was affectionately known for greeting each school day with classic rock playing as parents dropped off their children just one example of the joy and energy he brought to his work. John passed away in May 2025 after a battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Heather; their children, Holly and Rob; and three grandchildren who he loved immeasurably. He will be remembered for his wit, warmth, and unmistakable love of life. His presence will be deeply missed.
