Pete Abadie, Jr., Dies Suddenly
Pete Abadie, Jr., who probably did more to promote baseball in the border cities than any other
person in the history of this district, died very suddenly at 5:30 a.m., Friday at his home in
Nogales, Sonora, victim of cerebral hemorrhage. Death came on his 43rd birthday. Funeral
services were held Saturday, followed by burial in Nogales, Sonora. Abadie is survived by his
father, Pierre Abadie, Sr., and a brother, Edgar. A native Nogalian. Abadie managed many
Nogales ball clubs. In 1940 he reorganized the Internationals and in two years won the Sonora
state championship. His was the only outside team ever entered in the Tucson Semi-Pro
League, taking part in the 1942 second half play. He served as city treasurer of Nogales,
Sonora, in 1937-39 and 1941-43 and was to have taken the position again in September for a
three year period.
