Young boy on bicycle dies after being struck by vehicle
A 7-year-old boy died Tuesday following an accident Monday in which he
was run over after riding his bicycle into the path of a Jeep near West
Wickenburg Way.
Wickenburg Police Department reports said Brandon Pierce Greenwalt of
Wickenburg was struck about 10:15 a.m. on Kellis Road south of West
Wickenburg Way by a 1986 Jeep driven by Mike Macias of Wickenburg.
Macias is a 10-year veteran officer with the Department of Public
Safety. He lives in Wickenburg.
He was off-duty at the time of the accident.
Wickenburg Police Chief Doug Willmann said, "From all indications, it
appears the Greenwalt boy was coming down a dirt driveway on his bicycle
and came right out on the road (Kellis), and was struck by Macias'
northbound vehicle."
The boy was given emergency medical treatment at the scene of the
accident by the Wickenburg Ambulance Service, then transported from
Wickenburg Community Hospital by helicopter to St. Joseph's Hospital in
Phoenix, where he died the following day.
Officials at the hospital would not reveal the details of the injuries
sustained by the Greenwalt boy in the accident.
Willmann said investigation into the accident is continuing.
