| Sudden Death of Gracie Smith Gracie Smith, 12-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Owen T. Smith, of Dragoon, was taken with a coughing spell late Sunday night and died shortly after in her father’s arms. The immediate cause of death is given as heart trouble, brought on as a result of a case of typhoid fever contracted when the child was about a year and a half old. Just prior to her death Gracie was watching her father fix some automobile tires. She commenced to cough and almost immediately threw her arms around her father’s neck and cried: “Papa, I am going to die.” Death occurred shortly after. The funeral was held Tuesday, burial taking place at Russelville. The services were conducted at the residence of the parents, at 10 o’clock a. m., the Rev. C. A. Housel officiating. At the conclusion of the ceremonies the coffin was placed in a wagon draped in white, and surrounded by a number of the little playmates of Gracie, who were also in white, the funeral procession made its sad journey to the cemetery. According to old-timers it was the largest attended funeral in the history of the district and strongly attested the esteem in which little Gracie was held by residents of that vicinity.
