LEO BERNER
Word was received here of the death in New York on July 26 of Leo Berner, 2215 E. Edison, age
41. He had an heart attack about a week before, had been rushed to the hospital and appeared
to be making a good recovery. Mr. Berner was on his annual summer visit to New York to visit
relatives. He was a resident of Tucson for about 14 years. Survivors in addition to his wife, Bee
Berner, are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Berner and two brothers, Emanuel and David, of New
York.
Funeral services and burial took place in New York on July 27. Tucsonians present included Mr.
and Mrs. Julius Kagan and their daughter, Mrs. Lee Starr. Mr. Kagan is Mrs. Berner’s brother.
Others were Ethel Canfield and Mr. and Mrs. Saul Greenman who were in New York at the time.
Mr. Berner carried on only limited activity because of his health though his interests in the
Jewish community were deep. He was a member of Congregation Anshei Israel and of B’nai
B’rith. He was part owner with his wife of the Town Shop, a chain of women’s ready-to-wear
shops in Tucson and California.
