| The man who was found dead near Garcia's ranch near Hot Springs was Ernest Smith. He was a miner and was employed by Robert Hughland, of Phoenix and Robert Pearce of Morristown to do some work on one of their claims, which is about a mile west of Garcia's ranch. It is supposed that a blast of powder going off prematurely caused his death rather than want of water as at first supposed. Smith was a young man of only about twenty-one and came to the territory from Taylor, Texas, where his mother now resides. He was buried near the spot where he died as his body was in a bad state of decomposition. Weekly Arizona Journal Miner June 29, 1904 |
