| Wickenburg Sun (Wickenburg, Arizona) Wednesday, December 22, 2004 Missing Man Found; Murder Victim By Janet DelTufo Staff Writer A 22-year old Wickenburg man was found dead last week in the desert, a homicide victim. Timothy Smith, who was last seen alive on Nov. 30, was discovered by a hiker on Dec. 16 near the area of Vulture Mine and Vulture Peak roads. Information regarding the case has not been forthcoming, and much has yet to be learned about Wickenburg's second murder of the year. "This homicide case remains under investigation," said Lt. Paul Chagolla of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. "At this time, there is no additional information for release." Smith's body was discovered in an advanced stage of decomposition and left out in the open. Police, however, have not said how Smith was killed. Wickenburg's first murder of the year took place last March when Bret Smalling was killed and buried in a shallow grave near Castle Hot Springs Road.Three suspects in the Smalling case remain housed at the Madison Street Jail in Phoenix on charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping. There was also an attempted murder, and later suicide that took place last December just outside of town. |
