| Published by Mohave Daily News Online from Jan. 21 to Jan. 24, 2026 - Bullhead City, Arizona - Cheri Royer Nestrick, 75, passed away after a short battle with brain cancer on Jan 4, 2026. Cheri was resident of Bullhead City since 1977. She was born in Vandalia, IL on Nov. 1, 1950, to Leo Royer and Gladys Koontz Royer. She was a 1968 honor student graduate at Vandalia Community High School. She attended SIU-Carbondale (IL) on a scholastic scholarship and graduated with honors with a degree in education with a minor in mathematics in 1972. Cheri married her high school sweetheart, Kevin Nestrick, on December 19, 1970. After Kevin's graduation from pharmacy school in 1973, Cheri began her teaching career at Henderson (KY) City High School followed by 3 years at Davis County High School in Owensboro, KY. Cheri and Kevin moved to Bullhead City in 1977 where she began her 27-year career at Mohave High School, teaching business, accounting, business math, computer keyboarding and software applications. She was also an adjunct professor at Mohave Community College. Cheri was the consummate professional throughout her teaching career, giving 100% to her students and pushing them towards success. She was so pleased to see her former students achieve success in their lives. Many of her former students would recognize her and greet her with admiration and kind words, even years after graduation. Seeing "her kids" was one of her greatest joys. She was also full of school spirit. She was part of the "Bleecher Creatures" at sporting events. Cheri was an accompanist for students competing in voice competitions around the state. She often volunteered and attended parades, dances and senior trips to Disneyland. Her greatest thrill was the birth of her daughter, Dana, in 1980. Cheri relished in her daughter's accomplishments and the young woman she would become. Cheri enjoyed trips to summer theater in Wisconsin each year to see theater productions and Dana's work at APT. She enjoyed the Chicago theaters such as Dana's work at Steppenwolf Theater. Cheri and Dana also traveled to New York City to take in the shows and excitement of the city. Taking her sister Pat to NYC for the first time was their favorite NYC trip. Hosting parties and family reunions was her joy, especially at the Nestrick's Nest in Prescott. Cheri and Dana also spent many hours in the kitchen together. Cheri's love of cooking and create new dishes has now been passed on to Dana. Cheri's teaching career eventually rubbed off on Dana as well. She was so excited to mentor Dana towards her new career as a professor at Triton College. Cheri enjoyed golfing at Chaparral and the many social activities at the club. She was a member of Chaparral Country Club for 48 years. During retirement she became a full-time Chaparral volunteer. She loved serving the Rotary luncheons every week and the Contractors Association dinners. She always said those are "My Guys" (gals too). Cheri was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Cheri's mother Gladys and her sister Pat helped Cheri and others to charter the first BSP chapter in Bullhead City. Cheri held every office for the chapter over the years and was lead finance manager for their community fund raising and charitable contributions around the community. She was named Woman of the Year several times. Cheri and Kevin traveled the globe together with daughter Dana. Their pharmacy business took them to dozens of cities around the US. They also attended Olympics in Atlanta, Beijing, China and London, England. Cheri was a tremendous sports fan. They attended several final four basketball tournaments. In 1997 she had the thrill of seeing her U of A Wildcats win the national championship. And she rarely missed a baseball game on TV, especially the D-Backs. She enjoyed her trips to Elmwood Park, IL to spend time with her girls, Dana and Erin. Her favorite trip was her bucket list trip on an Alaskan cruise with Kevin, Dana and Erin in August 2025. Cheri's circle of friends and admirers was quite diverse. Her smile was contagious and her caring personality attracted so many. Her circle of friends included her bowling teammates, retired teachers, friends of Hope Church, Bell Choir, her bridge group, travel partners, Chaparral members, wine group, Beta Signa Phi sisters, Rotary friends and her many other friends throughout her years from childhood till now. All were considered her extended family, especially Julie, whose love lifted her spirits during trying times. Special thanks to Linda, Jan, Dee, Susan, Lori, Dianne, Lavonne, Olivia and too many mor to name for their love and friendship. Cheri was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Mark who died at birth, her sister Pat Ireland, brother-in-law Dwight Nestrick, sister- in-law Heidi Nestrick, and many wonderful friends including her dear friend, Sara Hargrove. She is survived by her husband Kevin (55 years), daughter Dana (Erin), sister-in law Ann Nestrick (Dwight), brother in- law Rich Ireland (Pat), brother-in-law HL Nestrick (Jodi), sister-in-law Regina Nestrick Hamilton (Jack), many nephews/nieces, and great nephews/nieces. And she leaves her loving cat Mr. B in Kevin's care. It was through her faith that she found her strength. It is the foundation she built our family on. She was an active member of Hope United Methodist Church. Playing piano and organ for many years as well as being a founding member of the Bell Choir was her gift to her church. Cheri's faith in Christ and His saving grace never wavered. Services will be held at Hope United Methodist Church on Ramar Rd, on Feb 14, 2026, at 11 am. A luncheon and celebration of life will follow at Chaparral Country Club, 1260 Mohave Dr. Bullhead City, AZ from 12 to 2. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite community charity is encouraged. She loved her community and would like you to contribute to the needs of her hometown.
