| Passing of Manuel M. Monreal Last Monday about noon Manuel M. Monreal, a highly respected citizen of Nogales, died at his home on Elm street, where he and his family have resided nearly ten years. Deceased had been ill more than a year, and three months ago went to Los Angeles, California, in the hope of obtaining relief from tubercular troubles with which he was affected. Instead of improving Manuel continued to grow worse; when he realized there was no hope of recovery he decided to return to his home in Nogales where he could die surrounded by his family - a wife and two children, a girl of eleven and a boy about eight years of age. Late Sunday night the sick man arrived in the city being accompanied by his brother-in-law Florencio Perez, of Phoenix, a deputy sheriff of Maricopa county, who had gone to Tucson to meet, his dying brother-in-law, who passed away the next day about noon. Deceased was well and favorably known in this city, where he resided about ten years, coming here from Phoenix, he was a property owner both in Nogales, Arizona, and in Nogales, Sonora; for a number of years he had been an active lodge and political worker, being a member of the "Spanish-American Alianza" and of the "Sociedad Hidalgo". At the time of his death Manuel was treasurer of the Mexican Democratic Club of Santa Cruz county, a position he filled with honor and ability. Deceased was a kind and loving husband and father, and a loyal friend. He will be deeply missed and mourned by his family and friends. He was only thirty-eight years of age at the time of his untimely passing. The funeral held Tuesday afternoon under the auspices of the two fraternal organizations of which he was a member, was largely attended by citizens of the Line Cities who visited the church and cemetery to pay their last respects to one whose untimely passing is regretted. Interment was in the Nogales, Sonora cemetery. The Border Vidette January 18, 1908 |
