>> Miodrag "MIKI" VUCKOVIC (1943 - 2024) <<

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing
of Miodrag (Miki) Vuckovic of Windsor, Ontario, Canada who at the age of
80 years old reposed in the Lord at Lake Havasu, Arizona, USA on
January, 18, 2024. Miodrag was born in Adrani, SERBIA (then Yugoslavia)
on March 30, 1943.

Beloved husband of Dusanka (Doris) Vuckovic, the love of his life for 60
years, and son Dusan (Danny) Vuckovic of Windsor. He is predeceased by
his parents, Dusan and Olga, and a sister, Gordana. He was a treasured
uncle to niece, Lela, and brother in law to Ljiljana Grkovich and her
late husband Alexander Grkovich of Boston, MA. Loving uncle to Andrej
Grkovich (and wife Christine) of San Diego, CA. and loving uncle to
Danilo Grkovich (and wife Anne) of Boston, MA. Brother in law to the
late Mira Kondic and son in law to the late Draga Kondic. Miki was a
loved and much valued member of his extended family, Milan Mijatovic, of
Windsor, (brother of the late Alexander Grkovich) and his children,
Veronica, Melanie and John.

He was of a generation born into scarcity and privation, eventually
leaving his home and family determined to better his life. Some birds,
as they say, simply cannot be caged. He emigrated to Canada in 1968 and
joined the vibrant Serbian community in the Windsor-Detroit area. He was
a proud member of the Serbian Orthodox Church and a Serbian patriot. He
played soccer for the Windsor Serbs. Miki loved the seaside, he loved to
travel and later in life, he loved Arizona.

He passed along his considerable technical knowledge to his son, Danny,
teaching him everything from automobile repair to renovating a home. He
was also blessed with the wit of an Irish poet, able to delight anyone
within earshot whenever he turned a phrase. He worked and lived long
hours with unshakable purpose, supporting his family while always being
the funniest person in the room. Known to his closest handful of friends
as, "The Doktor" (Master of Wit) Miki was nonetheless a man of great
energy and many skills which only lacked credential.

As his stature grew a story emerged in Windsor during the late 1970's.
It was reported that Miki had actually emigrated to the New World at the
port of Ellis Island in New York. It was said that when his boat was
approaching the harbour, Miki looked up with a big smile and winked at
the Statue of Liberty. Legend has it, she winked back.

May he rest in peace.
