| Bradbury Memorial Center - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - (Notice of Death published in Today's News-Herald on Mar. 14, 2026) James Ray Hyland, beloved husband, father, father in law, grandfather, great grandfather, and pastor passed away peacefully on March 8th, 2026 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. James "Jim" was born on March 11, 1941 in Belvidere, Illinois, to James and Alice (Barth) Hyland. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 17th at 1:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, 1605 McCulloch Blvd. S, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86406. (928) 855-6533. In lieu of flowers the family invites memorial contributions to the missions ministry at Calvary Baptist Church in Lake Havasu City, reflecting Jim's lifelong commitment to supporting the work of the church. Jim married the love of his life, Marcia Lea (Richart) Hyland on September 23, 1960, and together they spent the next 65 years building a life centered on faith, family, and community. Jim was preceded in death by his beloved son, Kelley Hyland. He is survived by his wife, Marcia, his son, Tracey Hyland and daughter in law, Donna, daughter in law Vicki, wife of the late Kelley, his grandchildren Stephanie Rebelo and husband Anthony, Chaz and wife Lindsey, Trevor and wife Larissa, and great grandchildren Maximus, Loretta, London, Sayre, Zach, and Caleb. Jim worked for many years as an air traffic controller, and that career took the family to Florida, Georgia, Missouri, California, and even San Juan, Puerto Rico, an especially exciting and memorable adventure for Kelley and Tracey. Jim was also an entrepreneur. He owned and operated Palm Lanes Bowling Alley in Gainesville, FL with his father. Later, Jim and Marcia owned and operated two restaurants: Sitting Bull's Last Stand and the Hickory Smokehouse in Wrightwood, CA. In 1986, Jim became the senior pastor at Phelan Community Church in Phelan, California, a ministry he loved and served in for the next 29 years. During that time, he went with grandson Trevor to Bulgaria on a baseball mission trip. He also coached baseball at Serrano High School in Phelan. Jim retired from Phelan Community Church in 2015. After that he served as the interim pastor at Olive Garden Church in Nuevo, California and the You are Missionary Church in Reseda, California. Jim and Marcia moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ in 2021 and Jim served at Calvary Baptist Church as Campus Pastor there. He was a lifelong fan of Chicago sports teams, especially the Bears and the Cubs. He was thrilled when the Cubs broke the "hundred year drought" and won the World Series in 2016. He loved his dogs, Daisy Mae and Jake, his faithful companions.
