| Published by Yuma Sun on Apr. 5, 2026 - Yuma, Arizona - Lorenzo Garcia Alvarez, 87, of Yuma, AZ, passed away on March 20, 2026. Born on February 12, 1939, Lorenzo was a dedicated family man, known for his quiet, reserved, and respectful demeanor. Lorenzo proudly served in the U.S. Army Infantry from March 8, 1961, to March 7, 1963. After his military service, he embarked on a career as a truck driver, a job he deeply enjoyed, particularly for the opportunities it gave him to explore places like Las Cruces, New Mexico, which he grew very fond of. Educated at Somerton Grammar School and Yuma High School, Lorenzo was an active member of the Future Farmers of America during his high school years. He notably received a purple ribbon when he entered his steer in the county fair, a testament to his dedication and skill in farming activities. Lorenzo was preceded in death by his parents, Tomas and Maria Alvarez; his siblings, Juan, Norma Saison, Reyna Sandoval, Marcella Sullenberger, Mercedes Charo, and Tom; and his beloved wife, Pauline. He is survived by his sister, Paula Alvarez Vea. A memorial service and rosary will be held on April 8, 2026, at 11:00 am at Yuma Mortuary. Lorenzo will be laid to rest on April 9, 2026, at 10:00 am at Sunset Vista Cemetery, 11357 E. 40th Street, Yuma. Lorenzo's life was marked by his deep commitment to his family, his service to his country, and his passion for his career and hobbies. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
