The victim, Terri Maddox, 45, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., was discovered by her roommate, another nurse and longtime friend who had traveled with Maddox to the Bay Area last month. Both women took jobs in place of striking nurses at Stanford's Lucile Salter Packard Hospital. According to the hospital, they were employed in the hospital's behavioral medicine unit. The strike by 1,700 nurses against the children's hospital and Stanford University Hospital enters its 29th day today. Foster City Police Lt. Craig Courtin said Maddox appeared to have died in her sleep. An autopsy has been scheduled by the San Mateo County coroner's office today to determine the cause of death. "It's been a tragic day for everyone here," said Ben Drew, hospital spokesman. Maddox, he said, was "well-liked and made a great impression on everyone in her unit, both patients and other folks."
