SPIVEY, Theresa Amelia

(Maiden Name: Ravetto)

Published by The Daily Courier on Apr. 26, 2026 - Prescott, Arizona - Theresa Amelia (Ravetto) Spivey, our family’s matriarch, passed peacefully from this life into the arms of Jesus, on April 19, 2026, with her children by her side. She was 95. Her long life has left a tremendous legacy and memories too numerous to count. Theresa was a devoted daughter, sister, cousin, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-aunt, friend and volunteer. All of her life, she was helpful to those around her. Theresa, also known as Terry, was born on June 7, 1930 in Gallup, New Mexico. In 1940, her parents, John and Adelena (Fedel) Ravetto moved the family to Prescott, Arizona. Except for a short time when her husband was in the military, Theresa lived all of her life in Prescott. Theresa graduated from Prescott High School in 1948. After seeing him in a dream, she soon met her future husband, Josh Clayton Spivey. They were married on Aug. 19, 1950, and enjoyed 52 years together. While raising their children they enjoyed many activities, including camping, fishing, boating, Gymkhana horse events and baseball games. Theresa was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Every few years the family would take a road trip to visit Josh’s family in Mississippi. Theresa and Josh were members of the Smoki people organization when it existed in Prescott. They both had snake bite tattoos on their left hands to signify the membership. Terry enjoyed gardening, embroidery, crochet and attended art classes. She was always a very active person. Theresa held several different jobs in her adult life. She worked at two different drug stores; as a butcher; a loan officer; but, was most well known and loved as a Yavapai Title escrow officer. She gracefully shared her knowledge with many she worked with and would follow in her footsteps. Theresa was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church in Prescott. Once retired from her career, she volunteered counting the collection each week. She volunteered her time at the St. Vincent DePaul thrift store. Theresa was an amazing Italian cook. There was often a family competition about who was the best at making spaghetti sauce and other delicious dishes. All of the family looked forward to the special meals she made. Included in these specialties were homemade gnocchi and ravioli, made each year for the holidays. In recent years, three generations participated in this awesome tradition. We are grateful those recipes have been written and handed down. All of their married life, Josh and Terry’s home was and still is the location for the annual Christmas eve “BagnaCaude” (hot Italian dipping sauce) and white elephant party. The memories created by these events are irreplaceable. Above all else, Theresa loved her family. Her siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all who knew her, felt that love and gave it in return. “Gma,” her chosen grandmother name, has meant so much to all of us. She has been extremely generous and thoughtful with her time, her talents and her possessions. Theresa was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Josh; and her four brothers: Joseph, John, George and Leno Ravetto. She is survived by her sister, Evelena Ravetto; her children: Annette Spivey and Tim (Gail) Spivey; grandchildren: Josh (Lindsey) Spivey and Tyler (Christina) Spivey; and great-grandchildren Caleb, Hailey and Clayton Spivey. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as other “adopted” family members. Her passing has left a true void in our lives. We will, however, be able to celebrate the joy, love and experiences we had with Theresa for many years to come. We are extremely grateful for the example she set and the love she gave. We would like to thank Maggie’s Hospice, Centerwell Home Health, as well as all the health care agencies that helped with her needs. We would also like to thank all of the in-home caregivers, especially Annie and Rachel. We would not have been able to get through these last many months without their loving and compassionate care.
