Published by Yuma Sun on May 2, 2026 - Yuma, Arizona - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jason D. Owens, who left us on April 23, 2026. He was born November 8, 1968 in Portland, Oregon to Levi C. Owens Jr. and Rowena Owens and was raised alongside his brothers, Brian and Kelvin Owens. Jason attended San Pasqual High School and dedicated many years of service working with the Quechan Tribe in the Utilities Department. He was known for his strong work ethic, the deep love he had for his family and devotion to take care of his loved ones. Jason was a loyal fan of the Oakland Raiders and spent much of his time enjoying a wide range of sports. He loved visiting casinos, with Viejas Casino being his favorite stop. Jason also looked forward to his weekly meals at El Charro Cafe and Paradise Cove, where he enjoyed good food and time well spent. He was well known and admired for his salsa-making skills, his talent on the grill, and his role as the family chef. Jason had a special love for desserts and never turned down baked goods, especially those made by his nieces and nephew. A true jack of all trades, Jason carried with him countless stories from a life full of adventure. He created lasting memories with his family, moments filled with laughter, love, and togetherness that will be cherished forever. He was always ready for the next trip, the next ride, or simply the next moment spent with those he loved. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his spirit, his stories, and the love he gave so freely will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Jason is survived by his wife, Laurie Joaquin, and his children: Jayna and Breeanna Owens; Danielle and Monique Owens; Edwin Brown; and Emma May. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Veronica Owens-Sanchez, Ariez Owens, Vidarose Owens, Nash Owens, Pierce Owens, Raiden Owens Urquidez, and Brinlee Curly; nieces and nephew: Lorena Joaquin, Irie Charles, Cora Hill, Ennimira Joaquin-Diaz, and Mason Diaz and brother and sister, Jordan Joaquin and Marie Joaquin and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi C. Owens Jr and Rowena Owens; grandparents, Levi Owens Sr. and Mary Morningstar-Owens; Charlie and Cora Hill; uncle and aunt, Carlton and Phylis Hill; cousin, Christopher Hill, and mother in law, Pearl Joaquin. Pallbearers: Cliffton Fierro, Rashaun Raymer, Michael Urquidez, Kyle Curly, John-Robert Sibole, Donald 45 Wayman Jr., David Roosevelt, Mandel Sanchez Jr., Frank Comet, John Shepard, and Paul Flores. Honorary Pallbearers: Kelvin Owens, Brian Owens, Jordan Joaquin, Albert Solorio, Jerome and Oselette Antone, Ricardo Juan, Robert and Randy Jones, Michael McKinley, Ivan Allen, Naaman Allen, Anthony Palone, Jerome Two-Hearts, Noah Charles, John Christman. Viewing will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Yuma Mortuary beginning from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Traditional Services to follow at Fort Yuma Quechan Big House at 6:00 pm. Tribal Ceremonial Rites on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 5:00 am. Jason will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love, strength, and presence he brought into the lives of all who knew him.
