In Loving Memory of Rene L. Castels
September 10, 1940 – June 13, 2025
Rene L. Castels, beloved husband, father, father in law, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at home on June 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Havana, Cuba, on September 10, 1940, to the late Genevieve and Francisco Castels, Rene lived a life marked by devotion—to his family, his country, his community, and his many passions. Known especially for his deep love for his wife Doreen and their children, Rene’s devotion and loyalty touched all who knew him.
Rene proudly served in the United States Navy for four years aboard the USS Nereus, an experience that shaped his lifelong sense of duty and pride in service.
Rene became the owner and operator of Rene’s Pest Control, a trusted and well-known business in Lake Havasu City. For over 20 years, he served his community with integrity and dedication.
Rene had a deep love for sports and competition. He made a lasting mark on the local bowling community, earning a place in the Lake Havasu Men's Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2008. He achieved three perfect 300 games and proudly wore the rings to prove it. Earlier in life, Rene also played Jai alai professionally—a sport he loved deeply—and narrowly missed competing in the Olympics, falling short by only two points.
His interests didn’t stop there. Rene had a true passion for movies, entertainment, and above all, the music of Elvis Presley. His spirit, like Elvis’s music, was timeless—full of soul, passion, and unmistakable charm.
Rene is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Doreen; his children: Sheryl (Joe) Talavera, Lisa Doyle, Lacy (Justin) Mitchell, and Bryana (Justin) Chambers; step children: Kelly O’Leary- Ferreira, Julie O’Leary-Johnson, Sherry O’Leary: nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his brother Adrian (Harumi) Castels, his sister Vivian (Hal) Hatley, and a loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
A viewing will be held on June 27th at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM with military honors: 21 Riviera Blvd Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403.
As many fellow Elvis fans would say:
Rene may have left the building, but his music lives on.
