NEWTON, Lynann Mary

(Maiden Name: Kennedy)

Published by The Daily Courier on May 27, 2026 - Prescott, Arizona - Lynann "Lyn" Mary (Kennedy) Newton, 76, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, surrounded by love and leaving behind a family who adored her, laughed with her and will miss her presence more than she ever would have believed. She was born to Bernice (Finn) Kennedy and Harold Kennedy on Nov. 26, 1949, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and spent more than 40 years working for the Town of Prescott Valley, where she became part of the town's fabric - the person who knew the history, the people, and the stories that made the place what it is. Her greatest pride and purpose were her daughter Meegan Mary (Newton) Martin and her grandson Gavin Shoults, to whom she devoted her entire life with steady, wholehearted love. She held a special place in her heart for her son-in-law Chris, whom she trusted completely - especially with the care and wellbeing of the daughter she loved so fiercely. She also loved Gavin's wife, Jordyn, who became family to her long before it was official. She cherished Teresa and Bill Martin, whose genuine warmth and presence in her life brought her comfort, connection and a sense of belonging she held close. She is survived, as well, by her cousins Jean and Ed Becker, whose love and support were a constant comfort to the family. She is also remembered by her lifelong friend Claudia, who knew her from the time they were two years old. Claudia always called her "my oldest friend," a phrase that made Lyn roll her eyes and laugh every single time. Their friendship carried them through childhood mischief, adulthood challenges and more hard seasons than either of them could count. She was a steady presence in Lyn's life, and her place in this story is one of deep history and enduring connection. Her two beloved dogs were her daily companions and constant joy. And while her family grieves her absence, they take comfort in knowing she is reunited with her parents and with the pets who went before her. They extend their appreciation to the staff at Glassford Place, who cared for her with genuine affection, treated her with dignity and loved her deeply. Their grief during this difficult chapter reflects the impact she had on everyone around her. She will be remembered for her humor, her stubborn streak, her sharp observations and her ability to turn even the smallest moment into a story worth retelling. She loved deeply, cared wholeheartedly and never hesitated to say exactly what she thought - usually with perfect comedic timing. Her final days were quiet and gentle, spent in comfort and surrounded by the love she earned over a lifetime. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Compassus Hospice, whose compassion, skill and kindness brought comfort and dignity to her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the 15/10 Foundation (https://www.1510foundation.org/), the Yavapai Humane Society (https://yavapaihumane.org/), or the Beagle Freedom Project (https://bfp.org/). Even in her final days, hearing about the beagles brought her joy, and supporting animals in need is a fitting tribute to her heart. A private gathering will be held to honor her life, share stories and laugh in the way she would have wanted. Information provided by the family.
