Published by Today's News-Herald on June 5, 2026 - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - In Loving Memory of Wayne Robert Holmes August 18, 1944 - May 10, 2026 Lake Havasu City lost one of its last true pioneers and cowboys with the passing of Wayne Robert Holmes on May 10, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on August 18, 1944, Wayne lived a life larger than most, helping shape the spirit and personality of the town he loved so deeply. A true visionary, storyteller, entrepreneur, outdoorsman, and friend to many, Wayne left his mark on Lake Havasu in countless ways. Wayne was widely known throughout the community for his passion for fishing and the outdoors. He was a seven-time Angler of the Year and held the world striper record out of Lake Havasu. His love for western bass fishing derbies and the lake itself became part of Lake Havasu history. Wayne also mapped the entire lake, sharing his knowledge and passion with generations of fishermen and visitors alike. Beyond fishing, Wayne was involved in many ventures that helped bring attention and growth to Lake Havasu City. He helped bring TV45 to town, worked in commercial real estate, published the Blue Water Review newspaper, and helped tell the "Real London Bridge Story." Wayne was a natural promoter of the city and one of its greatest ambassadors. Known for his unmistakable handlebar mustache, Wayne won numerous mustache contests over the years and was recognized everywhere he went. More importantly, he was remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his gift for conversation, his sense of humor, and his ability to make friends wherever he was. Wayne loved old western values, hard work, the desert, the lake, and the people around him. He was the kind of man who could tell stories for hours, always-leaving people smiling, laughing, or learning something new. He carried the spirit of the old West with him throughout his entire life. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Wayne Holmes; daughter, Lisa Holmes; granddaughter, Lauren Hernandez; cousins Joey, Leslie, and Lynn; along with many other cousins grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and lifelong friends who will deeply miss him. Wayne Robert Holmes was truly one of a kind. His legacy, stories, and pioneering spirit will forever remain part of the history and heart of Lake Havasu City.
