The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona Wednesday, October 07, 2015 Melba Olive (Augustine) Stadler was born Nov. 14, 1921, to Robert and Alvina Augustine in Oconto, Wisc., and went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Sept. 27, 2015. Melba graduated from Oconto High School and Milwaukee Vocational School where she studied secretarial training. This led to a position with Flanner-Hafsoos Music Store. She was introduced to her future husband, Art, through family connections. They were married at her parents’ home on March 7, 1942, and moved to Owen, Wisc., so Art could work on his father’s farm. They were eager to start a life of their own, and moved to Chicago. Art worked as a commercial artist and Melba nurtured their three daughters during the six years they lived there. Art and Melba were both raised in small communities which sparked an interest to move from the city. They chose Wickenburg in 1952 and purchased Many Feathers Trading Post where Melba ran the store while Art opened a sign painting shop. She joined First Presbyterian Church and was a faithful member for more than 60 years. She taught Sunday school and helped with vacation Bible school. Melba loved serving others, gardening and traveling. Hawaii and Europe were two of her favorite destinations as well as traveling with Art to wood carving shows to display his beautiful Arizona birds. Although transplanted to Arizona, she never forgot her Green Bay Packers and remained an avid fan. The family made many trips back to Wisconsin to renew family ties. Melba was a loving and caring wife and mother. She had an apartment at My Father’s Retirement Ranch after Art died and spent the last three years of her life in Phoenix living with her daughter and son-in-law. Melba had a sense of humor and a penchant for ice cream and anything else sweet. She enjoyed pinochle and family parties. She attended Trinity Bible Church while residing in Phoenix. She was preceded in death by her husband Art after 66 years of marriage. She is survived by three daughters Marcia (Bob) Cochran of San Antonio, Diane (Bill) Sullivan of Phoenix, Candy (Dennis) Green of Phoenix; grandsons Randy (Traci) Moening, Darrel (Raylene) Moening, Tim (Cailin) Henson, Matthew (JeDebra) Henson, Christopher (Theresa) Green, Patrick (Rhonda) Green; great-grandchildren Joseph Henson, Camden Henson, Connor Moening, Chase Moening, Braeden Moening, Kendall Moening, Lauren Green, Sydney Green, Zachary Green, Aubrey Green and Owen Green. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Wickenburg, 180 N. Adams St. on Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial gift to First Presbyterian Church of Wickenburg or Trinity Bible Church, 3420 W. Peoria Ave., Phoenix, Ariz., 85029. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley, Companion Hospice and Magda’s Family Home for the wonderful care they provided Melba. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Chimes, Glendale. See Also: Art (Husband) |
