Don G. Excell was born in Panguitch, Garfield County, Utah, to Ane Marie Henrie and Henry George Excell on July 1, 1920. He passed away May 21, 2009, at 8 p.m. with his family around him in Humboldt, Ariz. He was from a family of 10 children.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and eight siblings. He has one surviving sister. He was married to Alta Hancock in the St. George Temple on Oct. 5, 1939. He is survived by his wife; four children, Terrill Don, Linda Lee, Lucielle and Alta Kathleen; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He served two LDS missions with his wife Alta in the Southern States Mission. They were active members of the LDS Church and served in many callings. He worked as a farmer, handyman, carpenter, bricklayer and school custodian. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, canning and gardening. He quilted better than most women. Don and Alta were married for 69 years.

The funeral will be Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Spring Valley Chapel. Viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m.
